Unfortunately, they are inevitable, when we realize we've done things we shouldn't have done, we are faced with the cloud of regret!! Our actions, words or lack thereof have consequences that cause division and pain which which will bring us face to face with regret!! What can we do to overcome the guilt and condemnation of these haunting memories? I would start by acknowledging to God that I have hurt someone, sometime inadvertently but sadly there are times it can appear intentional due to our lack of patience or wisdom. When someone thinks we hurt them intentionally, it is difficult to win that persons forgiveness. It is very disturbing to be accused of hurting someone when you know you haven't but this also is a part of life on planet earth. When we repent of sin we find forgiveness with a Merciful God but with our fellowman, not so much... We are often held to a higher standard by people that have no standard for themselves yet they continually critique you as if they were judge and jury!! At the end of the day and regardless of which category your regret falls into, it is still regret!! My advise is to learn from your mistakes, forgive, ask for forgiveness when possible, realize you nor anyone else is perfect, love God and move on with your life!! "Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." (Matthew 5:7-8 KJV)
